What a nurse signature should include

A signature for nurses carries a different load than a generic corporate signoff. Shift coordination, physician handoffs, family communication, continuing education. The four fields that earn their place: Credentials, Unit, Shift, Charge line. Everything else competes with the email itself.

The minimum that works

Start with name, role, organization, and one direct line of contact. For nurses, that means Sarah Chen, RN, BSN → Charge Nurse, Emergency Department → Riverside Health → a single way to reach you. Add the role-specific fields (credentials, unit) only when they reduce friction for the recipient, not when they signal credentials.

What to leave out

Skip motivational quotes, multi-line legal disclaimers if you don't need them, and image-heavy designs. Email clients vary in their CSS and image support, so a compact table-based layout is a conservative starting point rather than a compatibility guarantee.

Format-specific tips

  • Gmail: Paste into Settings → General → Signature. Send yourself a test because thread presentation can vary.
  • Outlook: File → Options → Mail → Signatures. Use the HTML version — the plain-text fallback drops formatting.
  • Apple Mail / Mac Mail: Settings → Signatures. See the dedicated Mac Mail signature guide for the font-substitution workaround.

Customize and test yours

The builder above starts with nurse-specific defaults and exposes each advertised role field as an editable input. Copy the rendered signature or source, install it in your client, and send test emails before using it broadly.
